Prescription Ordering Direct (POD)

On Thursday 20th November 2025 at 1pm we presented an inspiring webinar where we shared our journey of delivering a successful Prescription Ordering Direct (POD) service. Attendees saw how this innovative initiative is transforming the way patients order their repeat medications, through a streamlined, centralised system that’s simple, efficient, and patient-focused. Attendees also learned how POD is empowering patients with greater control, freeing up valuable GP practice time, and driving down medicine waste and costs across the NHS.

About the event

This session was the second in a series of NHS ML webinars aimed at healthcare professionals across all sectors. Designed for those looking to enhance patient safety, boost efficiency, and unlock cost savings, this webinar delved into the real impact of Prescription Ordering Direct (POD).

Why it’s important

Inefficient repeat prescription systems place a heavy burden on GP practices, pharmacies, and patients alike. Complex ordering processes not only consume valuable time but also increase the risk of errors and can diminish patients’ independence in managing their own medicines.

POD services offer a smarter solution. Aligned with the UK Government’s Fit for the Future 10-Year Health Plan for England, POD supports digital innovation, prioritises prevention over cure, and strengthens the healthcare workforce.
